Doctors will take industrial action for the first time in almost 40 years over major changes to the NHS pension scheme, the BMA confirmed today (Wednesday 30 May, 2012).

On 10 May 2012, the European Commission convened a meeting of the European Health Policy Forum in Brussels. This forum is a multi stakeholder platform aiming at providing relevant input on European health-related policies implemented or monitored by the Commission’s Directorate General on Health and Consumers (DG SANCO).
On 10th May 2012 , the report on 'Interventions for Alcohol Dependence in Europe: A missed opportunity for public health' was presented in the European Parliament in order to raise awareness on the need to tackle the issue of Alcohol abuse in Europe. This report presented for the results of extensive research comparing alcohol consumption patterns, alcohol dependence and the burden of associated disease across the European Union.
In the course of the legislative process currently underway, the UEMS was invited to present its views on how the directive should change in order to encapsulate developments in the field of medical education and training. Dr Zlatko Fras, UEMS Liaison Office and Past-President, addressed the European Parliament's committee on internal market and consumers.
The next meeting of the UEMS Council will be held on 18th and 19th October 2012 in Larnaca, Cyprus. Practical information and documents will be circulated to UEMS Members in due course.
