Postgraduate Training

In Europe, each Member State is responsible to organise the training of medical doctors. For this purpose, national training programs, specific training centers and national assessment of medical competence have been set up in order to ensure that medical doctors are appropriately trained and able to provide the highest quality of care to the citizens.

Despite the long-standing efforts to improve the quality of care and the significant achievements made thus far, there are still discrepancies in the quality and safety of care provided to citizens from one country to another.

It is the UEMS' conviction that the quality of care is widely directly linked to the quality of training provided to the healthcare professionals. Therefore the UEMS committed itself to contribute to the improvement of medical training at the European level through the development of European Standards in the different medical disciplines.
