Structure

The UEMS represents national associations of medical specialists and operates at the European level to support and promote the interests of medical specialists.

The UEMS is made up of 41 National Member Associations which altogether compose the UEMS Council, i.e. the organisation's general assembly.
The organisation and functioning of the UEMS Council is detailed in this document.

In 1962, the UEMS created Specialist Sections to promote and defend the interest of the different medical specialties at the European level.
Currently,
43 Specialist Sections, 17 Divisions and several Multidisciplinary Joint Committees and Thematic Federations (all together considered as UEMS Bodies) are active in this regard.
