UEMS EBA Statement on WHO World Patient Safety Day

The European Board of Anaesthesiology (EBA) fully supports the WHO World Patient Safety Day 17th September 2021.

Approximately 810 women die every day from preventable causes related to pregnancy and childbirth so for World Patient Safety Day, 17 September 2021, the WHO urges all stakeholders to “Act now for safe and respectful childbirth!” with the theme “Safe maternal and newborn care”.

To raise awareness on the issues of maternal and newborn safety, particularly during childbirth the European Board of Anaesthesiology would like to publicise the European minimum standards for obstetric analgesia and anaesthesia departments.

These standards were approved by the European Board of Anaesthesiology advocating the adoption of best practices at the point of care to prevent avoidable risks and harm to all women and newborns during childbirth.
