UEMS Congress Mentorship Initiative
The UEMS Mentorship Initiative is an initiative that connects experienced medical specialists with young doctors and trainees. Its aim is to
support dialogue, learning, and exchange between medical professionals at all stages of their careers.
This programme offers a valuable opportunity for mentees to learn from experienced professionals — and for mentors to inspire and guide the next generation of European medical specialists.
Why participate?
This initiative offers a unique opportunity to:
- Connect with colleagues from across Europe.
- Engage in one-to-one conversations on professional and medical matters.
- Exchange insights on healthcare systems, specialist training, and career development.
- Offer or receive advice, support, and guidance in a collegial and informal setting.
Whether you are an experienced professional willing to share your journey, or a younger colleague seeking guidance and exchange, we believe these encounters will be valuable and inspiring.
Who is it for?
Mentors:
Mentors are experienced medical professionals or senior specialists who generously share their expertise, career advice, and insights.
They play an essential role in supporting the professional development of their mentees.
Mentors are encouraged to:
- Provide practical guidance and encouragement.
- Help mentees navigate the Congress programme and key sessions.
- Offer perspectives on leadership, research, and collaboration within UEMS.
Mentees:
Mentees are trainees, young specialists, or early-career doctors who wish to gain insights, guidance, and inspiration from senior colleagues.
They are encouraged to:
- Engage proactively with their mentor.
- Ask questions about career development, clinical experience, and involvement in European medical activities.
- Apply the advice and knowledge gained during and after the Congress.
Programme format:
The programme focuses on pairing mentees with mentors through an application-based system.
Application phase
The Initiative has two application phases.
- Mentor application phase. Candidates apply and are reviewed by the Mentorship Initiative Committee.
- Mentee application phase. Candidates apply and are reviewed by the Mentorship Initiative Committee.
Once the application phases are complete, mentees are paired with mentors by our Mentorship Initiative Committee
Matching process
The matching (pairing) and mentorship aims to match mentees with mentors who share similar specialties, interests, and professional goals to encourage meaningful exchange and support career development.
Where an exact specialty match is not possible, participants are paired according to shared interests or complementary experience.
The matches are made by the Mentorship Initiative Committee, based on several criteria and information provided during the application process.
