About EACCME®

Established within the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) in October 1999, the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) stands at the forefront of the evolving landscape of Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Europe.
With a commitment to excellence, EACCME® has been paving the way for mutual recognition and harmonisation of CME-CPD across Europe. The evolution of EACCME over the years showcases the UEMS’ dedication to advancing medical education and ensuring quality of patient care.

Our journey

In 1999, the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®) was established, with the UEMS Council adopting the criteria for Live Educational Events (LEE). This marked the beginning of the UEMS’ commitment to advancing medical education.

In 2000, EACCME® embarked on its accreditation activities, laying the foundation for standardised quality in CME/CPD across Europe.

In 2009, the EACCME® implemented accreditation criteria for E-Learning Materials (ELM), thus answering the growing need of digital education providers.

The EACCME®’s inaugural conference on CME/CPD held in Brussels in 2011 marked a milestone for our organisation as it brought together all stakeholders in the field of CME/CPD in Europe and abroad.

In 2016 EACCME® 2.0 was adopted, allowing the accreditation of new forms of CME/CPD activities.

Building upon this foundation, in 2023, EACCME® 3.0 was implemented together with a brand-new website and platform to enhance user experience and accessibility. This marked a new era allowing the accreditation/recognition of new forms of CME/CPD activities.
