The UEMS is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr Bernard Maillet (4 October 1958 – 28 June 2026), former Secretary-General of the UEMS from 2002 to 2010.
Dr Maillet dedicated much of his professional life to strengthening the UEMS and advancing the interests of medical specialists across Europe. Through his leadership, commitment and vision, he helped shape the organisation during a pivotal period of its development and made lasting contributions to European medical cooperation and continuing medical education.
His professionalism, integrity and genuine kindness earned him the respect and friendship of colleagues throughout Europe. His legacy will continue to live on through the institutions he helped build and the countless professionals he inspired.
